West Seattle Academy

NOVEMBER 2010

October was filled with many exciting and educational outings for our students at WSMS & WSA.  From the Pumpkin Patch to the Seattle Children’s Theater to the Cedar River Water Shed, Karaoke Night, the Carnival and the Salmon Hatchery, we have been quite busy!

If you have not yet heard, West Seattle Montessori School has been chosen as one of three schools in the nation to host a Pardoned Turkey All-School Assembly!  Each year, two turkeys are chosen to be sent to the White House for the President’s Thanksgiving dinner.  Starting in 1989, with George H. W. Bush, the turkeys were formally “pardoned” from the traditional meal.  This year, the two birds were hatched July 10 at Foster Farms in California.  They will be flown to Washington, D.C. to meet the President and for the historic ceremony after visiting three schools (two in Washington and one in California), and will then live the rest of their lives on a farm in Mt. Vernon. We are very excited to meet these feathered friends on their way to the White House!  If you have any questions, please contact Dolores in the Main Office at 935-0427.

Our last Little Green Thumbs session was on Thursday, October 28.  A big THANK YOU to FareStart for choosing WSMS as a partner in education.  What an amazing time for our Kindergarten students!  THANK YOU Seattle Tilth experts for your energetic and informative classes.

THANK YOU to Chef Ron for coming into our classrooms and teaching our students about the importance of nutrients in foods such as root vegetables!

THANK YOU to Casey Clarke for rotating the large tire on the pre-primary playground!

THANK YOU to Debbie McGrew-Keller, M.D., for speaking at our first Parent Ed night!
