Band Concert

Date: Tuesday, May 22nd

Location: Adams Hall, Tibbett’s Methodist Church

Time: 7 PM.

Students need to arrive at 6:30 to help set up.  I would like the students to wear concert attire: black pants or skirts; white shirts or blouses or tops.
You will receive a reminder about the concert, but I want to make sure you put this on your calendar.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week!

The teachers always appreciate flowers from your gardens and/or notes from your children!

Thank you teachers for all your hard work, commitment, dedication and all you do in teaching our children here at West Seattle Montessori School.

We will be taking our classes to Cama Beach State Park on Camano Island for the traditional lower elementary field trip.

We will be staying the night of Tuesday, May 8, and returning the following afternoon.

We will be staying in small cabins with one parent chaperone in each cabin. Staff will be in staff cabins.

Hello West Seattle Montessori & Academy Families!

It is time to nominate a person who you believe will help to lead our
Parents of Montessori Students parent group.  Please contact Brenda
Griswold (sultancat@comcast.net) to place your nominations by
Wednesday, May 9.  Voting will be on May 15 at our next POMs meeting.

Two positions are up for election each year and the term of each
position is two years.  The positions of President and Secretary are
open for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years.

It has been two fantastic years with the current POMS Board and
committee members establishing and organizing:

Highly successful fundraisers, including the family pasta night,
refreshements at the play, and the incredible auction of 2012!
Family Reading Night that has been a very easy, inexpensive, and fun
family night out!
Family Sign Language Night presented by our own beloved Ms. Lyn Wiley.
POMs Bulletin Board in main hallway with information and photos of our
successful events.

Our school has increased its momentum this year but there is still
room to grow our community.  Please consider your involvement–it is
very rewarding to contribute to our childrens’ school in this way.

Our next POMS (Parents Of Montessori Students) parent group meeting is
Tuesday, May 15 at WSMS at 6:30pm. Mark your calendars!  At this
meeting we will be voting on a POMS President and Vice President for
the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years.  Your attendance is vital in
voting in our new Board.  If you cannot vote at the meeting, please
come into the office to place your vote by 3pm on Wednesday, May 15.

A list of nominees will be sent home on Monday, May 13.

If you are interested on being on the Board (or would like to nominate
another parent), please send in your nomination (including the person
you are nominating and reason why you are nominating them) to the Main
Office.  Nomination are due on or before Wednesday, May 9.  See

below.

Special Notes:
While taking the California Achievement Test (CAT) some children can get so stressed out that they forget the facts or second guess correct answers. It’s unnecessary for a child to get upset over taking a test. Reassure the child that if they’ve done well all year, they’ll do well on the test. And even if the child’s grades aren’t impressive they can still score well on the CAT because the answer is right in front of them. Most questions are multiple choice which is the easiest form for some children.
