We are excited to announce that one of our students of West Seattle Montessori, Victoria Ha, has been selected as a finalist in Highline West Seattle’s Kidz Tipz for Health Billboard Contest! All finalists artwork will be featured on the West Seattle Blog, Highline Medical Center’s Facebook page and website, and in the West Seattle Herald newspaper.  The winner will be selected by an online community vote and will have his or her artwork featured on a billboard on the West Seattle  bridge and in our Live Healthy community magazine this September.  In addition, our school could receive a $500 educational grant.  Voting will take place the week of June 17th through the week of July 15th through Highline’s Facebook and website.  All finalists will be invited to a special awards presentation in August, where the winner will be announced.  So let’s get out there and show our support for Victoria and West Seattle Montessori.

Would you like to introduce your kids to gardening this summer?  Would you like a chance to dig in the dirt without the responsibility of having your own garden?   We have the perfect opportunity for you – the WSMS/WSA Pea Patch!!

You can water, weed and harvest once, twice or as many times as you like this summer.  To add to the learning experience, the Pea Patch harvest is donated to the White Center Food Bank.

No gardening experience is necessary.  We will let you know what needs to be done and give you tips for getting it done.  If you are an experienced gardener, you can take charge.   The bigger the community the better the experience!

The Pea Patch is located near WSMS/WSA – on SW 102nd St and 7th Ave SW, in White Center Heights Park.  We have Pea Patch beds #5, 11 & 16.  The park is a great place to run around, and at the South end there is a wonderful water garden.

Pea Patch Story: Last year the Shaw family (Barn Owls, Green Class) started two plots in the Pea Patch. Plants leftover from the WSMS/WSA plant sale went into the plots, and several families had a great time working to care for the garden over the summer and take the harvest to the food bank.  This year we’d like to get more families involved!

After hundreds of hours of work and the amazing creativity and generosity of our community, it is finally done:

TWIG 2013 Catalog Of Offerings

Prepare to be impressed. There is not a finer catalog at any school anywhere. Packed with one-of-a-kind offerings that money cannot ordinarily buy, and world-class art projects by our kids, this alone will make you want to attend. (we hope!)

And if you do, you will see for the very first time, our own professional Slide Show Film of photos of our kids. Every single child in our school has been included. (not an easy feat!)

It’s not too late. Tickets in advance are $65 each, including beer and wine. This is the lowest price of any school in West Seattle, public or private. It will not be this low again. And just by attending, even if you don’t buy a thing, you are helping our cause of Safety and Security. You can come to the door as well, and get in for only $69, but you will not have assigned seating (with your friends or class parents) nor will you have a personalized welcome/bid package (just a generic one). So please buy in advance! (but if you don’t, still come!!!)

A record 81% of families have either:
- donated an item/experience
- volunteered for the TWIG committee
- bought tickets
- donated cash if they couldn’t

If you are part of the 19%, it’s not too late! Whether you attend TWIG, make a cash donation, or simply drop off a bottle of wine for the Wine Grab (value $20 or more) you will be helping. 100% participation is the key to success.

Your fellow parents have poured hundreds and hundreds of hours into this so far. Show them you appreciate their efforts and PARTICIPATE in some way. Let’s make it 100%!

Graison & Ava’s 2nd Annual Crayon Drive for Children’s Hospital of Seattle

Each year Graison and Ava Poledna donate books, toys and infant supplies to Children’s Hospital in honor and remembrance of their brother Elijah Stone. They wanted to get their friends involved in the fun again this year by collecting Crayola brand crayons for the hospital! Last year you all helped donate a total of 8,140 crayons. Let’s try to beat that number this year!

The holidays can be tough for kids in foster care, many of whom face the season without parents, relatives or siblings.  When you live in foster care, you’re never sure if you’ll wake up to find a gift with your name on the tag.

That is why WSMS & WSA is hosting our fourth holiday Treehouse Toy Drive for foster kids.  This donation drive will help Treehouse give new toys and warm winter clothes to foster kids this holiday season!

Here’s how you can help:

SELECT A HOLIDAY GIFT LIST TAG OFF THE HOLIDAY TREE

1. Choose a holiday gift list tag on the holiday tree for a child of a specific age.
2. Purchase the items on your tag or write a check for the amount it costs to purchase those items.
3. Place toys/clothing (unwrapped) in the school donation bin, located by the holiday tree in the hallway or give your check to Dolores in the main office.  Please write your checks out to Treehouse.

performed by the Pre-Primary classes

Bring the kids to a night that will include dinner, a silent dessert auction (you provide a dessert to make this possible), a raffle, and a live auction!

Have your checkbooks ready! The live auction includes the ever-popular cameo appearances in the upper school play, prime seating at play performances (upper & pre-primary), and the highly coveted class baskets.  The raffle includes VIP parking for the plays, official play photos, and and official play DVD!

This is a Family Fun night so bring the kids, extended family and friends!
